How to create a Psychedelic Pattern

In this tutorial I show you how to create a psychedelic pattern.
I use the pathfinder and the pattern tool!
Step 1

Create a document.
Step 2

Create 3 objects with your Polygon Tool.
Step 3

Switch to the Outline View (ctrl+y).
Step 4

Make sure your objects look like this.
Step 5

Switch back to the standard view.
Now use the pathfinder and delete the parts you don’t need.
Step 6

Now you object should look like this.
Step 7

In this step you must rotate your object like its shown above.
Attention: If your object isn’t aligned 100% right you will get problems with white spaces.
Step 8

Now copy the object a view times like its shown above. Make sure there are no white spaces between the objects.
You can also use your outline view (ctrl+y) to adjust the objects easier.
Step 9

Now create a new object above the pattern.
Make sure that the object above contains all parts of the pattern.
Step 10

Now select both, the pattern and the frame above.
Step 11

Now create a clipping mask.
Step 12

Use the pathfinder to convert the clipping mask into a path object.
After that select the whole object and create a pattern while drag the object into your swatches.
Now you’ve created a new swatch with your pattern.
Step 13


Select the whole document and fill it with your new pattern.
